Course & Registration Update

Hello runners!  Hope your summer running season went well and you're looking forward to the cooler Fall temps and great Fall running races.

Registration is going well and we're slightly ahead of numbers for this time last year in the 100K, way above numbers from last year at this time in the 50K, and slightly below numbers for the 1/2 marathon at this time last year.  See who's registered here:  http://www.runrace.net/findarace.php?id=13292MN

As for the course, we'll be back to a course much closer to our original course.  However, I had earlier anticipated Oldenburg Point being open by October.  As of now, Oldenburg Point, our traditional 50K start and 100K turnaround, will not be open until November.  We're looking at a new 50K start and 100K turnaround location for 2013.  It's looking likely that we will start the race on the Willard Munger Trail in Thompson at the City Hall or at the Willard Munger parking lot closer to Carlton.  This would mean that the start of the 50K would involve mostly a flat paved trail for the first 3.5 miles before hitting the dirt in Jay Cooke State Park.  This would likely make the course a little faster but perhaps a bit less enjoyable to run.  It would make a good start location and we would be using the exact same course for Wild Duluth as we have in the past except for the 3.5 miles at the start of the 50K and turnaround for the 100K.  Once we have this route finalized, we'll post maps and directions to the start and turnaround location.  See you in October!
